Nongsa Digital Park (NDP) is designated to be one of the main digital economy gateways in Indonesia, located in Indonesia’s Batam island next to Nongsa Ferry Terminal, 35 minutes from Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. NDP has an ideal infrastructure for digital businesses to grow and it incorporates plans for a future data center, complete with lifestyle and tourist facilities within the existing Nongsa Resort enclave.
NDP is located within Nongsa Resort 170 ha area owned and operated by Citramas Group. Within this land bank, the Group has already developed Turi Beach Resort, Nongsa Point Marina, Nongsa Village, Nongsapura Ferry Terminal, Infinite Studio’s film, and animation facility and Tamarin Golf Course. The facilities within NDP provide Technopreneurs a conducive environment to Work, Live, and Play, experiencing a different way of working in a lush Equatorial Island set conveniently close to Singapore and with an International Airport (Hang Nadim Airport, Batam) located only 15 minutes from NDP.
The First Phase of NDP will consist of nine office buildings, the first three being inaugurated by 20th March, with two already fully occupied. This First Phase will see the creation of approximately 1,500 jobs, a number that will grow significantly as the whole NDP project enters future phases. It is slated to attract total potential investments for above USD 500 M. At the Rising50 Leader’s meeting last September 2018 in Singapore, Indonesian President Joko Widodo mentioned that NDP will be a “Digital Bridge”, a springboard connecting Singapore via Batam to other digital economies in Indonesia and an ideal location to be a platform for digital Industry and the development of a start-up incubator.
The project has seen the support of Indonesian and Singaporean Governments through various agencies, especially on the educational initiatives aimed at elevating the skills of Indonesian IT students to empower them with world-class technical capabilities. NDP is currently hosting the first section of an educational program aimed to share with sixty-five Specialists from Indonesian Educational Institutions in the digital economy new knowledge and skills, which will enable them to further enhance their IT education and training activity. The program has the support of Temasek Foundation International, Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Republic of Indonesia (MORTHE) and Batam Polytechnic.
Overall NDP is a strategic platform for growing e-business in Indonesia and globally: leveraging on the current assets created and managed by Citramas Group, the facility will be setting a new benchmark as an ideal, modern and friendly ecosystem where to Work, Live and Play. Citramas Group is a diversified Indonesian business conglomerate established in 1979, with the current NDP project representing the Group’s investment in Batam first integrated Digital Park, in line with President Jokowi’s vision of having Indonesia as the largest digital economy in South East Asia. Supported also by the Group’s subsidiary Company “infinite Studios”, which has been operating for a decade in animation and film production, Citramas Group’s new project aims to attract Indonesian IT talents from all over the country. As a first mover, Infinite Studios has facilitated over the years an educational training program and provided jobs for hundreds of animators from various part of Indonesia.
With the presence of this local workforce in Nongsa, Infinite Studios has attained Global Industry acclaim for their animation productions, including multiple Emmy Awards and a Cannes premiere for an animated film. In addition to pushing the boundaries of Industry evolvement on a national and global level, the efforts have contributed to the Export targets of the Indonesian Digital Economy, as recognized through various Export Awards received from Ministry of Trade. Citramas Group will remain engaged with relevant Indonesian authorities to support a constructive dialogue supporting the regulatory environment surrounding Digital Economy activities, being certain that this is an important component for the future growth of the industry and a key element in attracting Foreign Direct Investment.
